In August 2018 we and 4 other vehicles set off to tackle the Anne Beadell Highway from west to east. This was preceded by months of preparation, culminating in vehicle checks by Ford, our vehicle modifier and an independent 4X4 mechanic to ensure that brakes, suspension, steering etc were all in good mechanical condition for the trip.

The WA side of the “highway” was in good condition, but then we crossed the border to be greeted by severe unremitting corrugations and washaways. We had reduced tyre pressures and speed, travelling at 20-30 km/h maximum.

100Km east of the border we discovered we had a major suspension failure and our progress ground to a halt.

It was a Sunday of course and when ringing the Club 4×4 emergency number we were put through to their call centre who were very helpful, but couldn’t at that time solve our problem.

The next day we rang again (thank heavens for sat-phones) and things quickly started to be put in place. We were impressed with the way the claims staff assessed and presented options to us, and more importantly demonstrated that they really cared about our welfare in such a remote area.

Ultimately, we were repaired on site and were able to return to Laverton in WA.

Club 4×4 then assisted us in processing our claim, giving clear guidance in regard to what information we were required to provide. Once the claim was approved the payment of our claim was prompt.

Club 4×4 turned what could have been a disaster for our vehicle into what is now a great campfire story as we tell everybody of Club 4×4’s outstanding service to us.
