Article from RV Daily

Volkswagen has partnered with Aussie RV specialist, Jayco to create a brand new modern camper in the VW Crafter Kampervan. No, it’s not a typo, it really is spelled with a K.

Specifically made for the Australian market, the new VW Kamper won’t see you foregoing any comforts. This camper will allow you to hit the road and rediscover what Australia has to offer in absolute comfort.

The VW Kamper utilises the frame of VW’s Crafter Van. This is where Jayco comes in! Jayco’s experts locally designed, engineered and manufactured the Crafter Kamper’s conversion right here in their Australian facilities.

Here’s what we know about the new VW Crafter Kamper

General specs

The new VW Kamper is big, coming in at 6.8-m long x 2.0-m wide x 2.8-m tall. Despite its size, you won’t need a special licence to drive it as the GVM comes in at 4000kg.

Powered by VW’s 2.0L bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine for 130kW of power and 410Nm of torque, this 4Motion all-wheel drive has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The VW Kamper seats four but sleeps up to three, has a 75L fuel tank, and heavy-duty suspension, shocks and stabilisers.

The kitchen

The kitchen features a two-burner gas cooktop, sink, fridge, microwave, versatile bench space, storage and grey water tanks for the sink waste.

In the cab

In the cab you will find a spacious cockpit with a responsive infotainment console and smartphone connectivity.

Sleeping and bathroom

The rear seats fold out to create the main double bed and the front seats can be arranged into a cosy day bed, or to sleep a child. You won’t have to brave the cold for midnight toilet trips as the VW Kamper has a self-contained shower and bathroom with hot water. For those times when you’re covered in sand or got caught in the mud, there is even an external shower.

  • Electric Fiamma awning
  • 200W solar system and lithium 120Ah house battery

Options for the new VW Kamper

There will be three different trim lines available to order: the entry-level VW Kampervan, the Kampervan Style and the Kampervan All Terrain. The latter will be the most expensive with specialised Seikal off-road parts such as a 30mm lift kit.

The standard VW Kamper will be available in a solid white or metallic silver and grey, while the Style and All-Terrain Kampers will be available in two-tone paints for that nostalgic feel with a modern colour scheme.
