Did we ever really want it?

It's a great novelty and would no doubt have made for some great content on Aussie roads, but Tesla's low-rendered, straight from a PS1 game 4WD, the Cybertruck, is no longer heading to our shores.

In an email from the Elon-headed company, they said that the plans for a right-hand drive Cybertruck have been discontinued. Hurdles like price and compliance hindered their entrance into the market and even in the US, sales never took off.

Apparently tens of thousands of Aussies had paid the now-refunded $150 deposit for them back in 2019. That's a seven year wait for something that has now probably been outpaced in terms of affordability and maybe even capability by plenty of electrified utes.

It's an abrupt and disappointing conclusion to the tale of a unique, unhinged, yet anticipated 4WD that us at Club were personally keen to see tackle our terrain.

Yes, the Cybertruck's design was always intentionally low-res, but was the vision ever really clear?

Are Modern 4X4s Too Complicated?

Modern 4WDs can conquer terrain that would've stopped older vehicles in their tracks, but they've also become far more complex. From common rail diesels to traction control and electric drivetrains, we explore whether today's technology is making our 4WDs better or simply harder to understand and repair.
