How to Access Stockton Beach (Entry Points & Permits)

Accessing Stockton Beach with your 4WD will firstly require a permit. These can now be picked up online, something introduced in March 2026.

If you’re a local, the $88 annual pass might be worth it, otherwise, it will cost $33 for a 3-day pass. Without a permit, you can be fined.

Once your permit is secured, you can head onto the beach via one of three beach access points. Get your permit here.

Gan Gan 4WD Entry, Anna Bay

This entry is the best for those looking to access the dunes and spend a day exploring them. It’s also the only access where you can bring your dog with you!

Lavis Lane 4WD Entry, Williamstown

The Lavis Lane entry is ideal for campers with a camper trailer or motorbikes.

Fern Bay 4WD Entry, Fern Bay

This is a narrow, one-way access to the southern end of the park. There are no overtaking lanes, and 4wd camper trailers are not allowed to access via this point. This track is for experienced four-wheel drivers only.

Each entry point offers a very different experience, so it’s worth checking a map before choosing your access.

What about existing paper permits?

If you already have a paper or sticker permit, don’t stress. It’s valid until it expires. Just make sure it’s clearly displayed while driving on the beach. Once it runs out, you’ll switch over to the new digital system.

Best Time to Visit for Families

Stockton Beach is open year-round for visitors, though it is most popular during the warmer months. If you want to have the beach to yourself, aim for the shoulder season from March-May and September-November. The weather will be mild, and it will be much quieter.

For the best photos of the dunes, golden hour is always the goal. Around 40 minutes before sunset, be at the top of the dunes for a dreamy array of colours over the dazzling dunes. If you’re camping, the sunrise will be just as spectacular, albeit possibly slightly colder.

Know Before You Go

Stockton Beach sits within the Worimi Conservation Lands, so conditions and access rules can change. Always check for closures, respect cultural sites, and stick to designated tracks.
