Located on the mighty Archer River, the Archer River Roadhouse is found on the Peninsula Development Road, 65km north of Coen, 166km south of Bramwell and 200km southeast of Weipa which makes it the perfect place to refuel and grab a great feed.

The Archer River roadhouse has a top old-school menu, and they are famous for their chunky burgers - a “must-do” when you’re on the Cape.

Of course, they don’t just do a mean hamburger, they also offer a fantastic campground out the back. There’s plenty of space for however you choose to camp - including several shady spots! The area is usually green and grassy with lots of level ground.

Take the time to have a walk around and check out the cashew trees growing there. The cashew nut and fruit are quite a site if you haven’t seen them on a tree before!

There are fantastic facilities on site including toilets, showers, fuel, a well-stocked general store and great tucker.

Out the front of the roadhouse you’ll notice a memorial plaque, this is for a pioneering woman who was a long-time truck driver on the Peninsula, Toots Holzheimer.

You can find out more about Toots and her legacy here.

If you’re planning a Cape York adventure this touring season, make sure a stopover at the Archer River Roadhouse is on your itinerary - and an added bonus... the starry night skies are spectacular.

During our visit to Archer River Roadhouse in July of 2023, camp fees were $15pp/night (adults) and $10pp/night (kids). Cabins were available for $160 for the first person, plus $60 per additional person per night. Fuel available at the time was $2.65/L for Diesel and $2.67/L for Unleaded.
