Recipe from ARB 4×4.
2 cups self-raising flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup milk
5 rows of dairy milk or other chocolate of your choice broken into squares
12 marshmallows cut in half
Preheat your camp oven. Rub butter into flour until the flour resembles fine bread crumbs. (Tip: if you buy Woolies brand butter, it has marks on the packet to indicate 50-gram sections. Saves guessing or measuring!) Add sugar and combine. Add marshmallows and chocolate, then combine.
Create a well in your flour mixture and add milk. Mix until just combined. Do not overwork your dough! Form a large ball.
Grease and flour a cake tin. (If you do not have a cake tin, just put a piece of greaseproof paper over your trivet.) Drop the ball of dough into your tin or onto your trivet. Flatten out until it’s a 40-millimetre thick disk.
Put the lid on your camp oven. Put one shovel of coals underneath and two on top. Bake for 30 minutes or until ready, checking every 10 minutes. Damper should sound hollow when you tap it.
Add cream and dig in! (Tip: No kids at camp? Substitute Baileys Irish Cream for the milk for a delicious alcohol twist!)
