Well, what an amazing event the inaugural Rigs N Rolls was. After a stressful 48hrs in the lead-up with the weather, we were blessed with relatively blue skies and sunshine. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time out to be a part of it. To see 50+ fourby’s lined up before the gates even opened was incredible! – [Pictures and video below – all photos thanks to Unsealed 4X4]

Underpinning the concept was community and the chance for everyone to get together, regardless of age, background, location or resources. We had young blokes and gals with P plates, an awesome bunch of Zooks from Wollongong, families and everything in between. It was great to spend some time talking to a few of you about your rigs as I went around judging – a lot of passion and love for the vehicle which was expected but still really appreciated.

In the end our ticket count says we had about 120 cars displayed on the day. There was a good spread too; from GQ’s, 80s and Pajeros, to 79’s, rangers, Pajero’s and Navara’s; even a few beautiful old models like 40’s, 60’s and even a 25 and an old Zook which I’d never seen in the flesh before.

On Judging – what a tough job! We had Wes from Unsealed 4X4 (who was also the gun behind the camera for our photos between talking to punters!) Borgy from The Offroad Adventure Show, Nigel Ward from the NSW & ACT 4WD Association and myself on the task. With 120 awesome rigs to check out and the good chats had, it took some time. Distilling it down to an agreeable list amongst the boys was tough, but we had some very worthy winners who walked away with a well-earned trophy. In the last few days we’ve had some feedback around this process and categories, thanks for being open with that, we will look to make adjustments for the next one!

The raffles were also an amazing hit – one of the team told me we had one gentleman who bought $100 worth of tickets. This was despite the fact that after looking through the prize list, he had multiples of everything to win! An amazing testament to the generosity in our community. Thank you to everyone, even one ticket meant the world and makes a huge difference! Thank you again to our friends at Redarc for donating a Tow Pro Elite, Tred 4X4 for donating a pair of Tred Pro’s, Proline Automotive for the $300 online voucher for detailing and detailing products and ARB for donating two weekender recovery kits. To supplement this we also had generous donations from Unsealed 4X4 who gave 50% of sales on the day and Norweld Canopies also.

We sold all but about 40 of our bread rolls so it’s obvious that the guys and gals from Crossed up 4X4 Club and Camping with Families Club did an amazing job with the bacon and egg or sausage and onion rolls that were tempting all our taste buds throughout the day. Looking over at the tent it was like a small army – all volunteers, all here to support the cause and be a part of the community.

To the guys from the NSW & ACT 4WD Association– a massive thanks for the partnership in the lead-up and on the day – generously giving time to help with marshalling and the smooth running of the day. I said it on the day, but 4WD clubs are the cornerstone of responsible 4WDing. The Association as the peak body for NSW not only support their clubs, but also lobby government and regulatory bodies and really are the voice of the 4WDer in NSW. If anyone hasn’t thought about joining a club – you should. Jump on the Association website and find your local club – it costs nothing to go to a meeting and observe as a visitor without committing to join.

Without the amazing volunteers and sponsors noted above, there’s no way we could’ve made this happen – I’m very thankful for these amazing partnerships.

In the end, we have managed to raise $4984.37 – all of the proceeds from entry, the raffle, food and donations from various partners on the day. We are pleased as punch to be able to give all these funds to our mates at the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program and stand tall with our brothers and sisters in rural Australia who are doing it tough.

This wont be the end folks – we are already planning the next event. A few people said they can’t wait till next year – well let me tell you – you wont have too.

Happy Touring
